Daily Bible Verse 9/22/2017He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less. John 3:30
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This was the word of the Lord spoken by the prophet Jeremiah. This word is still true today and best describes the 200 years of God fulfilling his promise to his children at First Baptist Church (FBC) in Sharon. Servants of God established this church, and prayed for and believed in God’s faithfulness through the ages. They made a covenant to carry out the great commission of Christ in this community; to preach the gospel of God's love toward humanity and His gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Through the good seed which was sown by these men and women of God, FBC Sharon has been both blessed and a blessing. Now in 2014, as we begin our third century, we are the beneficiaries of the promises of God and sit on the precipice of His work ahead. We assuredly build on the shoulders of all who have gone before us and with the same God who will always lead us.
The town of Sharon continues to grow in numbers and in diversity of cultures. However, everyone who lives and works here shares a desire to have a community of “good neighbors.” Jesus teaches that we should love our neighbors as ourselves. The FBC family chooses to stretch out our hands and heart to be that “good neighbor” everyone wants and needs. We love the Lord and we love one another. As we enter this third century, loving our neighbors will be our passion, our sacred trust and our promise - first in honor to God and then out of Christian love for those we encounter on our individual and collective journeys.
As the next pastor in a line that stretches backwards from 200 to 2000 years when the first pastors held service in houses, I am excited to roll up my sleeves as God pours out a fresh anointing for the work of this congregation. By God’s grace, we will go wherever His spirit leads us, knowing that the journey will surely take us to new places and require that we be open to new ideas and flexible enough to meet the needs of a growing congregation and community.
Our Sunday service is a celebration of the blessings of God and a time to lift up the name of Jesus. Come join us at 10:45 am! We share each other's joys and concerns and hear the inspired word of God preached for today's listener and for current life situations.
If we ever needed messages of edification, exhortation, and comfort, we need them now. God knows this and FBC Sharon is a place where the spirit of the Lord is present to restore and revitalize your soul so you can live the abundant life God promises in His word. Whether you just need to hear a kind voice, a word of encouragement, a helping hand or a completely new start in life, we want to walk with you as God leads you through the trials and tribulations of the day. Join us! It's a low key but spirited atmosphere, where you will receive a touch from God while you’re here. If any or all of this piques your interest, that's the Holy Spirit urging you to come visit, fellowship with us, and grow with us. The doors of the church are open to all!
